After having a 30-point lead at the mid-season point, Earby secured promotion with victory over Brinscall in the final game of the season.

The Applegarth was wet and rain was forecast, so when Brinscall won the toss they chose to bat.

The visiting professional Zandre Cloete and his captain Liam Winstanley opened against the Earby skipper Richard Craddock and Jake Hargreaves.

The openers had taken the score to 26 when Hargreaves had Cloete caught by Andy Jaggers. he He followed up next ball by clean bowling Steven Hawke.

Young Sam Maclachlan joined his skipper and steadied the ship for a while until Hargreaves added to his tally by removing Winstanley for 21, Next to strike was pro Dave Crotty when he removed Parker to trigger a procession.

Crotty added the wickets of Paul Chaplin, Phil Lowe and David Parker. Craddock replaced Lee Parkinson and bowled Ian Chaplin for 13.

Brinscall were scrambling for runs but they were all out for 98 as Crotty returned the excellent figures of 5-23 off nine overs.

Earby decided they were taking no chances with the rain and opened with the fast-scoring pair of Matt Wilson and Matt Haines. Unusually they started slowly butgradually they started to match each other blow for blow.

Finally, Brinscall did get a breakthrough, Wilson offering up a catch off Lee Burgess’ bowling, for 36.

Crotty joined Haines who was now enjoying himself. The pair cruised past Brinscall’s total in the 18th over, Haines ending 47 not out and Crotty 10 not out.
