APPLETREEWICK'S Ted Mason has been crowned as BOFRA senior men's champion after winning the Muker ShowRace last Wednesday.

The Wharfedale Harrier pulled clear on the first ascent and never eased up as he led the field home.

Emma Hopkinson made it a double for Wharfedale Harriers when she was the first lady finisher and secured the BOFRA Ladies crown.

The race was run in cloudy but warm conditions with the low river levels allowing for the shorter race route where everyone splashes majestically through the river before scrambling their way over rocks and fields to the top of two summits and back.

The route might have been the shorter variant, but it isn’t without a sting in the tail.

The final section of the race is a challenging uphill struggle through fields, made even more arduous by the presence of spectators lining the route to the finish funnel.

Second man home was Borrowdale’s Oscar Meanwell, who was also first male under-23 runner. Third place went to Helm Hill’s Adam Perry.

The second lady was Kirsty Hall of Wharfedale Harrierd who was also the first lady V40 finisher. The third lady was Wendy Dodds, the first lady V45 runner.

The junior races was depleted as many of the youngsters were back at school.

The under-17 race was run over a slightly shorter route than the seniors but included the vital ingredients of a river crossing, steep ascent and uphill finish.

There were only three under-17 runners with Wharfedale’s Thomas Nelson romping home from Helm Hill’s Michael Dugdale with James Calvert in third place.

Nelson has already secured the under-17 BOFRA title and produced another impressive run.

The under-14 race was slightly shorter and it was won by Trawden AC’s Euan Fraser. He was followed home followed by Jasper Worrallo and Ben Metcalfe.

The first and only girl was Wharfedale’s Keera Nelson who finished third overall.

The mixed under-12 and under-nine race saw Reuben Owen win and be first boy, with Broughton Runners’ Michael Capstick second and Miles Owen third boy.

The first girl, and third overall, was Broughton Runners’ Chloe Capstick. The second girl was Scarlet Worrallo.
