CRAIG Walsh of Crosshills A won the Macpherson Paints Norman Johnston Trophy Final at Addingham.

The final was a big test for Walsh as he was facing Keighley's Richard Hargreaves who was bidding to win the event for the seventh time.

Walsh was not overawed by the task and soon put the pressure on as he raced into a 10-5 lead.

Hargreaves put in a quick double to close 10-9, then Walsh hit top form with a determined run to race away to an excellent 21-11 victory.

Walsh had opened his bid to win the title with a 21-7 quarter-final win over Aiden Phillips of Steeton.

In the semi-finals he was up against his team-mate David Scott who had beaten Gargrave's Keith Moore 21-7.

Scott made the better start and led 14-8, but Walsh was not going to fall away and showed great determination to win 21-17.

Hargreaves had beaten Broughton Road's David Precious 21-16 in the quarter-finals and that took him through to a match against Settle's David Leeming who had beaten Sutton skipper David Cadwallader 21-19.

Hargreaves went into an early 15-7 lead against Leeming and never looked back.

Leeming pulled back to 16-12 down but could not close the gap as Hargreaves moved into another final with a 21-14 win. This time he was unable to lift the trophy.
