MATTHEW Wear has made it a family hat-trick by winning the Derek Hurren Memorial Trophy for the leading under-17 cricketer in the Upper Airedale Junior Cricket Association (UAJCA).

The Denholme teenager therefore follows in the footsteps of his elder brothers Andrew and Richard, who have also won the award.

The Keighley area also picked up three of the four other Cricketer of the Year awards at the UAJCA's prize presentation night at the Rendezvous Hotel in Skipton.

Kyle Welsh (Cullingworth), who scored a record 52 runs off only four overs, took the under-11s award, Adil Modak (Steeton) was a comfortable winner for the under-13s and Poppy Saffery (Aire Valley Angels and Cononley) was the girls' winner for a third straight year.

Batting winners for the UAJCA age-group teams included Bradley's Toby Meynell (under-tens) and James Robinson (under-13s), Welsh (under-11s) and Cullingworth clubmate Billy Whitford (under-15s) and Bradford & Bingley's Owen Narey (under-12s).

Bowling honours went to Steeton's Ewan Johnson (under-11s), Silsden's Nick Firth (under-15s) and Oxenhope's Dan Scott (under-17s).

Merit awards, chosen by the respective team managers, went the way of Oakworth's Subhaan Ahmed (under-tens), Joel Oxford (under-11s) and Harry Hollingsworth (under-12s), Oxenhope's Tom Mawer (under-15s) and Denholme's Isaac Murray (under-17s).

Meanwhile, for performances in the league, Welsh (under-11s) and Cowling's Sammy Brear (under-17s), for a second straight year, were the top fielders, while Wilsden's Matthew Swain (under-13s), Silsden's Cameron Knowles (under-15s) and Oxenhope's Lewis Hopkinson (under-17s) were the top wicket-keepers.

Silsden's Will Pullen was the leading under-17 bowler, and Welsh (under-11s), Firth (under-15s) and Scott (under-17s) were the top batsmen.

The roll of honours for teams included Bradley (under-11s North Yorkshire Conference), Oakworth (under-11s West Yorkshire Conference), Steeton (Brook Taverner under-13s), Wilsden (under-15s) and Silsden (under-15s Division Two).

The hotel's Malham Suite was again packed to the rafters with about 450 players, parents and guests, while the prizes were presented by Andy Laws, from Pro Coach Yorkshire Cricket.
