CONONLEY Sports' fine 6-3 home victory over the Harrogate League's Pannal Sports has earned them a tasty tie in the second round of the West Riding County FA Challenge Cup.

Craig Gregory's four goals, plus efforts from Craig Ebbrell and Rob Slater, gave Sports a home match against West Yorkshire League rivals Oxenhope Recreation on Saturday, November 1.

If Cononley Sports' win caused minor shockwaves, Sutton's 2-0 triumph at Bradley resulted in seismic tremors.

Sutton had lost all five of their Mastab's Craven League Division Two fixtures, while Bradley had only lost once in five matches in Division One.

But home manager Tony Piotrowicz said: “Sutton deserved it for holding out but we never turned up and got what we deserved. Hopefully it was just a blip.”

Sutton will now host Farsley Celtic Juniors, from the Yorkshire Amateur League.

It was bad news across the board for the other Keighley area teams in the West Riding County FA cups.

Silsden’s Development XI went down 4-1 at West Yorkshire League side Aberford Albion, with only an own goal to show for their efforts.

Ben O'Melia was the star man for Silsden Whitestar as they triumphed 7-2 at Huddersfield League outfit KKS Spartans in the West Riding County FA Trophy.

He bagged four goals, others coming from Sam Stansfield (2) and Mark Bradley as the Cobbydale team booked a trip to Yorkshire Amateur League side Old Centralians Reserves.

Ten-man Broomhill went down 1-0 at home to Ryburn United Reserves, who netted a penalty in the first half.

Ryburn, having earlier missed a penalty, converted their second on the half-hour after Aaron Whitaker lightly pulled back the striker in the area.

However, below-par Broomhill came more into the game after going behind and looked a threat in the final third against higher-ranked opponents.

Andy Tanner had a header ruled out for offside after Tom Hill’s shot from 40 yards was parried by the Ryburn keeper.

In the second half, Broomhill managed to up the tempo.

Captain Patrick King led by example and, on the hour, Jake Ward's cross evaded every Ryburn defender and found Joe Slater at the back post, his volley across goal finding Tanner, who forced a smart save.

Man of the match David Rhodes, playing in his favoured centre-back role for the first time this season, nullified any danger but, with 15 minutes left, Ward was sent off after being booked twice for dissent inside five minutes.

A number of changes were made to adapt to the reduction in numbers and this nearly paid off with two minutes to go.

Tanner, lively throughout, latched on to a clearance from Chris Reynolds and, bearing down on goal, a bobble forced a heavier touch and the keeper slid out to gratefully claim the ball.

Battling Denholme United Reserves went down 3-0 at home to Rothwell Town, forcing their keeper into three decent saves when the score was only 1-0, while Lea Kelley also missed an open goal.

Craven League side Salts Thirds lost 3-2 at home to Lower Hopton Reserves, while Ingrow & Worth Valley suffered a 3-0 home defeat to Hunslet Club and Parkside Reserves.
