Settle United 4 Altofts FC 0

Settle United progressed to the next round of the West Riding County Cup after overcoming a resilient Altofts side 4-0.

The first half finished goal less, although Settle wasted a number of chances. The first chance of the game fell to Settle striker Mark Loughlin who went through one on one with the visiting goalkeeper, his indecision cost him though as the keeper dived to save at his feet. The Altofts keeper then made a reaction save to thwart Shaun Airey from close range. A further strike from Airey and one from Settle's player-manager David Worthington both went over the bar.

It took to the 65th minute for Settle to take the lead. A long throw in wasn't cleared by the Altofts defence and Airey prodded home from an acute angle.

Settle doubled their lead through substitute Liam Swanson, his close-range header followed good work from Airey and Worthington.

Airey was now running the game and it was his persistence that brought him his second and Settle's third goal, he closed down the keeper's attempted clearance then won a race with the opposition defence to slot home.

The final goal, again came from an Airey pass into the path of Will Beckwith who ran through and calmly lobbed the out rushing keeper.

Settle visit Lepton Highlanders in the next round.
