Mosborough 24 Skipton 21

SKIPTON were left reflecting on a victory they quite literally allowed to slip through their fingers.

Careless handling errors, poor decision making and missed passes contributed to their downfall in a match they should have won.

The unavailability of a number of regular players meant that Skipton were forced to field a makeshift back division which included a number of forwards.

Mosborough had the advantage of the slope in the first half and opened the scoring after a few minutes. Poor tackling led to the visitors giving away a soft try.

The Mosborough side gave away plenty of penalties but Skipton failed to take advantage. In contrast, the Reds gave away two and found themselves 11-0 down.

Skipton roused themselves and hit back with a try of their own. Paddy Murray used his strength to power through the Mosborough cover defence to score a try which the versatile Luke Stockton converted.

It was a potential launchpad to get back into the game, but Skipton conceded two unconverted tries as they slipped further behind.

When Skipton’s set pieces worked, moving the ball round the backs at pace, they showed what they were capable of and strong ball carrying put Stockton in a try which he again converted.

Ben Hall powered over for Skipton’s third try as they drew level at 21-21. The game was there for the taking.

Unfortunately it was Mosborough who seized the opportunity and won the game with a last-minute penalty.
