A JOE Jalil header in the ninth minute of stoppage time earned Silsden a point from the visit of Alsager Town in the North West Counties League Premier Division.

Jalil was meant to be among the substitutes' but started the game after Ryan Brereton, who was making a comeback from a ligament injury, pulled up in the warm-up.

It was a game that had more than its fair share of drama, and the visitors’ goal also came in stoppage time – of the first half.

There had been a lot of chances at both ends in an entertaining game but it appeared to be going into the break goalless. But then Ryan Wintle twisted and turned past three men in the Cobbydalers’ area to carve out space for a shot and he gave keeper Danny Thorpe no chance from eight yards.

The home side gradually got on top in the second half but they were having trouble finding the back of Alsager’s net. The Cobbydalers forced a corner two minutes into stoppage time, and Thorpe sprinted forward to join the attack.

He challenged for the ball and almost got on the end of the cross but hit the deck after a buffeting from a defender. He had split his lip and needed several minutes of treatment before play was allowed to continue.

The last-gasp winner came after a shot had been blocked. Jalil collected the rebound and shot but that effort was palmed up in the air by the visitors’ keeper. Jalil reacted quickest to head home.

There were mixed results for the two clubs whose games survived the weather in the Toolstation Northern Counties East League Premier Division as ALBION SPORTS lost, while THACKLEY had an all-too-rare win.

Albion were at runaway leaders Tadcaster Albion but suffered a narrow defeat as the ten men of the home side snatched a 2-1 win with two late penalties, scored by former Sports midfielder Liam Ormsby.

Following a goalless first half, Albion had a good chance in the 70th minute when Danny Facey got through. He was forced wide and then fouled by Taddy’s former Farsley keeper Tom Morgan, who was sent off for denying a goal-scoring opportunity.

Albion finally scored eight minutes later through Alex Cusack but eight minutes from time substitute Matt Morgan was adjudged to have fouled Jonathan Greening in the area and Ormsby levelled from the spot.

In the last minute, Sam Bradley was culpable as another penalty was awarded to Taddy and Ormsby again kept his cool.

Thackley edged a scrappy game on a wet and sticky surface in heavy mist at Retford United.

A goal from Ryan Farrell early in the second half was enough to lift the Dennyboys two places to 14th.
