CONDITIONS were quite good for the final match in this season’s Skipton Winter League series which was fished on the marina (boat yard) length of the canal at Barnoldswick last Sunday.

With little wind, mostly cloudy weather and a coolish temperature, almost all of the competitors managed to catch fish which consisted mainly of small skimmers and roach. A few better quality fish were also landed along with a pike that gave a great boost to the weight of the runner up.

Dave Fenn continued his late charge up the leaderboard with his winning weight of 2,020g (4:7:0). Jeff Hartley secured second spot with 1890g (4:2:8) and Darren Wright was third with 1,830g (4:0:8). Bill Davenport was fourth with 1,330g (2:15:0), with Mark Bradley 1,220g (2:11:0) and Russell Heaton 900g (2:0:0), fifth and sixth respectively.

In the pairs event, Davenport and Bradley just pipped Dave and Bob Fenn for first place with 2,550g (5:10:0) to 2,540g (5:9:8). Wright and Barrett were third with 2,450g (5:6:0) while Hartley and Brown took fourth place with 2,330g (5:2:0) and Thornton and Parker were fifth with 1,590g (3:8:0).

The final placings are as follows but are subject to confirmation: Individuals. 1 Darren Wright 132pts, 2 Dave Fenn 127, 3, Ian Parker 122, 4 Mark Bradley 106, 5 Rob Thornton 99, 6 Russell Heaton 95, 7 Mick Cockshott and Malcolm Barrett 93.

Pairs: 1 Thornton and Parker 61, 2 Dave and Bob Fenn 60, 3 Wright and Barrett 59, 4, Bradley and Davenport 53, 5 Ramsbotham and Heaton 48, 6 Cockshott and Young 40.

In the final of the individual knockout competition, Dave Fenn beat Rob Thornton by the comfortable margin of well over 1kg (2.2 lb).

The final match will be the Xmas Cheer event which will be fished on the Marina (boatyard) length this Sunday, instead of on the previously arranged Long Ing length.

All competitors are asked to bring along a prize or prizes up to the value of around the £7 mark which is the normal entry fee minus the bank peg charge which has been waived for this match.
