Lepton 0 Settle United 1

SETTLE progressed to the fourth round of the West Riding County FA Challenge Cup after beating Lepton Highlanders in an open, free flowing game of football.

Settle, playing down the slope, started brightly and chances fell to Dave Worthington, Matthew Cardus and Shaun Airey without really troubling the goalkeeper.

Lepton were always threatening on the break. Numerous long balls caused Settle problems, on one occasion a lob from the home centre forward just cleared the bar.

The best chance of the half was created down the left by Cardus. He beat his man and his cross fell to Barney Harrison six yards from goal but he managed to head wide.

Settle scored ten minutes into the second half when Worthington broke down the left, his cross was headed into the danger zone by Harrison and Lee Walker volleyed home.

The game really was end to end and two fine saves from Sam Arrowsmith preserved Settle's lead. Harrison broke clear of the defence only to be thwarted by a fantastic save by the Lepton keeper.

Settle defended resolutely for the last ten minutes to progress to the next round."
