HIS side might have been scratching around to get some practice in on a 4G pitch this week but Wharfedale coach Jon Feeley reckons playing on artificial grass at Ealing Trailfinders on Saturday might actually suit his side.

The Londoners are top of SSE National League One and have won nine matches out of nine at Castle Bar this season, scoring 405 points (an average of 45 per game) while conceding 164.

And there is evidence to suggest that they are getting used to playing on their new surface as they have put 319 points past their visitors in the last six matches, an average of 53.16.

However, the ninth-placed Greens travel with confidence, having won four matches in a row for the first time since October-November last season, and Feeley stressed: "We have a fairly young side and playing on an artificial pitch might actually suit us."

Certainly it would be a major feather in the Dalesmen's caps were they to triumph this weekend, with only Blackheath (31-27) having coming anywhere near to victory at Ealing in 2014-15 on December 6.

Wharfedale's confidence has been boosted by them seeing off bogey team Tynedale 34-14 at The Avenue last weekend.

"We haven't beaten them at home in the two previous seasons but we were wise to their driving line-out tactics this time and kept them scoreless in the first half (Wharfedale were leading 13-0 at the interval)," said Feeley.

"The disappointing thing for me was that they scored at all because their two tries came from our errors with a couple of missed tackles."

Two familiar faces featured for Wharfedale Foresters in their 71-17 demolition of depleted Tynedale Seconds.

Brothers Aaron and Nathan Myers played, and Feeley said: "It is great to have them back and it adds to our back-row strength.

"Nathan is back permanently from Darlington Mowden Park but Aaron's availability depends on his work on Scottish wind farms."

Feeley is not anticipating much change to his line-up this weekend as his team are playing so well, having beaten Richmond, Macclesfield, Mowden Park and Tynedale in succession.
