THERE was double delight for talented Skipton swimmer Hannah Raistrick in Saturday’s Paw Swimwear Yorkshire ASA Age Group/Open Sprints Championships at Ponds Forge.

After qualifying second in the 12 years girls 50m butterfly with a time of 32.03sec, Raistrick powered to victory in the final as she clocked 31.54.

Clearly boosted by her gold medal, Raistrick won another in the 50m breaststroke. Here she qualified fourth in 38.71, but took victory in the final with a time of 37.62.

Hopes of a hat-trick of wins were dashed in the 50m freestyle. There a fantastic time of 29.58 gained her the silver medal.

Raistrick also qualified for the backstroke final where she came home sixth in 34.23, to cap a great night’s work.

There were more good performances from the 27-strong Skipton team.

Twelve-year-old Joel Phillip also reached finals in all four strokes finishing sixth in the breaststroke, freestyle and butterfly and seventh in the backstroke.

Hermione Rowe came away with a bronze medal in the nine-years freestyle event in an impressive time of 34.67 and also finished sixth in the breaststroke with a time of 46.60.

First-time qualifiers Madison Turner, Rohan Smith, Harry Rowe and Alfie Weston all swam well in their events.

Skipton had eight swimmers reach the top ten in their events which included Ella Bardgett, ten, who finished eighth in the freestyle and seventh in the backstroke.

Luke Midgley came fifth in the breaststroke final, Daniel Burrow, 12, was seventh in the backstroke and James Field,14, finished eighth in the freestyle.

Edward Sharpe, 11, also reached the finals of the freestyle and butterfly events. Abi Field, 11, and Tom Barrett, 13, were reserve finalists for their events.

This Sunday sees the Skipton swimmers compete in the the Yorkshire Teams Championships being contested at the John Charles Centre for Sport in Leeds.
