Silsden Ladies 0 Tingley Athletic Reserves 2

Silsden’s fine cup run came to an end at the semi-final stage but they went down with a fight against unbeaten Tingley.

Striker Laura Ackroyd had to don the goalkeeping gloves following illness and she kept the visitors out three times early on.

But when the Silsden offside line was broken, the ball was slotted under Ackroyd to give Tingley the lead.

It became two shortly afterwards following a neat finish, and it would have been easy for Silsden’s heads to go down.

But from that point forward, the defence of Rebecca Brown, Katie Fawcett, Charlotte Hutchinson and Dee Rutherford were outstanding.

Vicky Smith went close with a free-kick, and Stacey Wood’s shot from outside the area flew narrowly wide.

In the second half, Victoria Ellis, Smith and Vicky Williamson continued to threaten but the breakthrough just would not come.

The whole team had to dig deep against a young, fit side, and they were nearly rewarded when substitute Harriet Brewer’s shot was well saved by the keeper.

Silsden are back in action on Sunday at Leeds Medics & Dentists.
