Skipton 95 Hornsea 5

SKIPTON rounded off their Yorkshire Four season on a high with an emphatic 15-try victory over Hornsea on a sunny afternoon at Sandylands.

In a fitting accolade to his best season for the club, hooker Chris Sheenan led the home side out as captain and directed operations with the maturity and experience only many years in the front row can bring.

Skipton set the tone for the match in the first minute when centre Matty Langstaff scored a try after a strong run by forward Liam Jordan.

Jordan then added to the home side's early tally with a converted try under the posts following excellent forward work.

The re-start kick went straight out and from the resultant scrum a strong run by home full back Hamish Munro put Jordan over for his second try.

Two consecutive scrums were won against the head by Sheenan before Munro went over for Skipton's fourth try of the afternoon.

Ben Hall put Langstaff over again and a superb winger's try from James Ackers established a 34-0 lead.

This was added to by an excellent back row forward's try from Hall. Expansive open play by Skipton was pulled back by the referee for a forward pass but this only gave skipper Sheenan the opportunity to take his third scrum against the head.

Luke Stockton, notable by his absence from try scoring in recent weeks, got their next two tries. Stand-off Michael Mullins converted both to stretch the lead to 53-0.

With the wind at their backs for the second half, Skipton soon saw Langstaff secure their tenth try. Hornsea then pulled one back with an explosive turn of pace from their outside centre. Jordan and Munro countered with a try each, both converted by Mullins.

A series of penalties in the visitors' favour then followed as Skipton lost concentration, with Jon Currie receiving a yellow card for repeated infringements. A second one was awarded against Stuart Barraclough a few minutes later but Skipton's enthusiasm couldn't be dampened and Jordan ran in the home side's 13th try.

Stockton put in a run down the middle to create a try for Hall which Mullins converted.

On the stroke of full-time that man Jordan crossed again to round off an emphatic win.
