Fifteen-year-old South Craven Academy pupil Jamie Gridley has won a gold medal in the English National Karate Championships at Sheffield.

He fought well and won the under-52kg title for his weight and age.

It has been one of Jamie’s dreams to become English Champion since he started training six years ago.

Jamie’s coach, World Champion and present England Coach Sensei Paul Newby watched in anticipation as Jamie won each fight on his way to the gold medal.

Jamie’s parents Michael and Debbie said: “It was a very proud moment for us all. All the hard work and dedication has paid off.”

Jamie trains at NCAA within Vision Fitness & Martial Arts Centre Crosshills.
