Sam King, 12, had a very successful weekend when he achieved his first ever North East Regional time in the 100m backstroke at the Harrogate Spa Town A/B Graded Meet.

King has been close to the time before but never quite achieved the standard, he is now one of Skipton swimmers who can compete in the North East Regional Championships later in the year.

King knocked an amazing 38 seconds off his previous best time while winning the 12-years boys 400m freestyle in 5:03:39.

He also shaved ten seconds from his faster-ever swim in winning the 200m freestyle in 2:23;84. Both times qualify him for the Yorkshire Championships.

In the 200m backstroke, King clocked 2:36:78 to set a new club record and earn a speeding ticket.

He achieved his North East Regional qualifying time while setting a club record of 1:12:91 in the100m backstroke. He also collected his second speeding ticket.

A silver medal in the 200 individual medley capped a fine meeting for King.

Mark Mahoney claimed two club records in the under-17 boys age group. He set new bests in the 400m individual medley and 50m backstroke of 5:13:00 and 50m backstroke.

Beth Lilley had banked four club records in the under-17 girls 400m freestyle 4:58:16, 200m freestyle 2:19:06, 400m freestyle 4:58:16 and 200m freestyle 2:19:06.

Ned Sharp shaved two seconds off the club record in the200m freestyle.
