SETTLE had their first taste of defeat this season on Saturday, but stormed back the following day with a remarkable Lancashire Cup victory.

Read arrived at Marshfield eager to avenge their 170-run mauling in the Ramsbottom Cup two weeks earlier. They elected to bat and were coasting comfortably at 120-3 with ten overs remaining.

Pro Imran Khalid (3-71) and Saud Ahmed (3-30) briefly put the brakes on, but Read finished with a flourish to close on 171-6.

In reply, John Davidson (15) and Asif Fazal (35) opened steadily, but the loss of Khalid for five was to prove decisive. Laurence Read (29) and Tom Davidson (25) battled hard, but the lower order was swept away to leave Settle on 128 all out. To lose by 43 runs.

Settle made a disastrous start at Daisy Hill on Sunday in their cup tie. At 21-4 the prospects looked dire, but a stunning record-breaking fifth-wicket partnership of 210 between Khalid and Tom Davidson transformed their fortunes.

The pro hit a sensational unbeaten 142, with ten fours and nine sixes, while Davidson shrugged off injury to smash five sixes in a run-a-ball knock of 88 as the visitors racked up 288-7.

The Bolton League men could not match the required rate in the face of tight bowling. Khalid (2-25) and Fazal (2-8).

Under-17 Daniel Strickland stole the show by taking three wickets in his single over to see off the hosts on 169.

Second-placed Settle are anticipating a tough encounter on Saturday as they entertain league leaders and current champions Clitheroe at Marshfield.

South African Kyle Marshall was in good all-round form for Barnoldswick but he could not save them from a three-wicket defeat against Euxton.

Marshall top scored with 56 in the Barnoldswick total of 185-8 in which John Pickup made an unbeaten 39. Marshall followed up with three quick wickets as Euxton's top order was blown away.

With Mohammed Saffi (2-49) also striking, Barnoldswick looked to be heading for victory, but Jacob Meredith (49no) and Chris Pearson (48no) turned the game around and snatched win for Euxton with two balls to spare.

Just one week after defeating Edenfield to register their first win, Earby became Oswaldtwistle Immanuel's first victims of the season as they went down by two wickets.
