A NEW fell race among the glorious scenery of the Ingleton waterfalls has been hailed a success after attracting nearly 100 runners for its first event.

The runners tackled a five-mile route along the famous Ingleton Waterfalls Trail, climbing 800ft during the first Ingleton Scenery Off Road Race.

The race was organised by the Ingleton Scenery Company. Director Peter Worthington said: “We were delighted to see so many runners for our first event and, having sampled the fantastic scenery, we hope they, their friends and families will be back soon!”

There were runners aged from 16 to 70 and from 20 different clubs, with one, who was holidaying in the area, from as far afield as France. The race was won by Tom Durcan of Derwent Athletic Club in 29min 27sec, with Paul Webb of Settle Harriers in second and Stephen Chew of Barlick Fell Runners in third.

First woman home was Melanie Hyder of Helm Hill Runners in Kendal. First local male was James Maxwell of Settle Harriers and the first local female was Ellie Lambert of Wharfedale Harriers.
