SKIPTON area clubs flattered to deceive in the second round of the Wynn Cup.

Sutton were chasing 217 for victory at Haworth and got a great start via openers David Snowden (70) and Matt Walker (40).

However, no-one else managed above 20 as they could only make 175-9 after Simon Doane (2-29) and Tony Walton (2-33) had done well with the ball.

Skipton Church Institute may be in the Third Division but could feel happy about the way they began at home to Embsay.

Ian Henderson (26), Jonathan Sharpe (31) and Martin Chisnall (30) helped them to 80-1 against the First Division strugglers but they then collapsed to 110, with only No 8 Sam Smith (11no) also making double figures.

Josh Robinson (4-32) and Jonno Coward (2-34) precipitated the slump, and Morgan Davies then made an unbeaten 67 and Robinson 25 in an 87 partnership for the first wicket as Embsay won by nine wickets in just 16.3 overs.

Joe Metcalfe will feel hard one by at being on the losing side for Gargrave at home to Long Lee.

Stuart Weatherill (4-40) and Metcalfe (4-46) helped to restrict the visitors to 198-9, and Metcalfe then hit 11 fours and three sixes in an innings of 117 but only found real support from Mark Jones (30) in a 68 stand for the second wicket, and they were dismissed for 189.

Cononley did well to reach 215-6 at First Division joint leaders Bingley Congs, who had earlier made 290-7.
