PRIMARY schools from Skipton and surrounding villages begin their bid for this year’s Drax Cup, the biggest cricket competition for under-9s in the country, at Sutton Cricket Club today.

Eight schools will compete in the Craven School Sports Partnership stage with teams including Kildwick, who were crowned North area champions in 2013 and finished runners-up in the overall competition.

More than 550 schools across Yorkshire and Teesside are registered for the 2015 Drax Cup. Teams play in a series of events to produce four area winners from the North, South, East and West.

These teams will play the 2015 Drax Cup Finals at Headingley on Friday, July 10, prior to Yorkshire Vikings v Durham Jets in the NatWest T20 Blast.

The Drax Cup is sponsored by Drax and organised by Yorkshire County Cricket Club in conjunction with the Yorkshire Cricket Board, the Yorkshire Cricket Foundation and the Yorkshire Schools’ Cricket Association.
