GRAHAM Perry and Ian Bernard were celebrating after winning the Hargreaves Ltd Summer Doubles at Broughton Road.

The quarter-final matches saw Dennis and Kevin Mackie just get the better of David Rankin and Bob Jeffries 15-13, while Martin and Wayne Lee looked in good form as they knocked out Carol Uttley and Alan Downing 15-7.

Perry and Bernard had a good tussle with Rob Scarr and Graham Sharp before beating the Cononley pair 15-13.

The home father and son combination of Brian and Darrell Gore put up a good show with a big win over Viv Abell and Mick Bastow.

The Gore had to give a one shot start in the semi-final to Perry and Bernard, but it didn’t seem a problem as they forged into a 10-8 lead before their opponents hit back to win 15-10.

The other semi saw Dennis Mackie and his son Kevin take on cousins Martin and Wayne Lee.

The Lees were soon six up but the Mackies came back to 9-9 before finally succumbing 15-11.

The final proved to be a good contest and was 7-7 after eight ends.

Perry and Bernard were testing the Lees but they hung in at 11-10 until one bad end saw them concede a three. A single at the next end completed a 15-11 win.

Settle got off to a good start in their Clarkson Cup semi-final against Silsden at Rolls Royce with Andy Armstrong and Derek Seed both having 21-14 wins. Dave Smith 21-17 and Ian Bernard 21-19 responded for Silsden.

Settle had increased their 45-point handicap advantage to 53 after four jacks. Silsden countered in the second four, with good wins for Alan Thornber 21-13 and Alec Byrnes 21-11, but Settle replied with two important winners in David Leeming 21-18 and Brian Farrage 21-15, putting the match beyond Silsden with a 44 point lead after eight games.

The last two rubbers were shared as Settle sealed a final spot with a 237-185 win.

Their opponents will be last year’s Supplementary Cup winners Sutton A who saw off holders Keighley A 208-175 as they made the most of their 40-points handicap.

The match at Lund Park had a surprise start as Kevin Mackie opened the scoring with a 21-2 win for Sutton and that gave them an advantage they never lost.

Wins for Phil Anderson 21-10, Richard Hargreaves 21-16 and Chris Wilson 21-7 pulled back points for Keighley.

Scott Bairstow 21-20 and a big win for Sutton skipper David Cadwallader 21-8 made sure it was going to be Sutton who made the final.

There were no surprises in the Supplementary Cup semi-finals as Gargrave A got the better of second division Steeton A 239-216 and Craven A beat Silsden Playing Field A 227-212.

Steeton, who had the benefit of a 25-point handicap, needed to make a good to start to retain the lead and Ian Hodgson read the script with a terrific 21-10 win.

The other first four games went the way of Gargrave through Martyn Cox 21-6, Alister Keighley 21-9 and Keith Moore 21-17.

The middle four games where shared Chris Smales 21-13 and Cath Rushton 21-20 winning for Gargrave, while Alden Phillips 21-17 and Wendy Ward 21-20 kept Steeton in the game.

Paul Drinkall produced a match-winning performance for Gargrave with an outstanding 21-3 triumph. Martyn Foulds also won 21-15 to seal Gargrave’s victory.

The match between Craven A and Silsden Playing Fields A proved to be the close encounter that everybody expected.

Craven got the better start with David Hewitt, Robbie Ellis and Rod Bastow all winning 21-14, while Alan Pennington 21-17 replied for Silsden.

Craven had three lady winners in the middle four matches, Debbie Hosty 21-17, Viv Abell 21-20 and Joanne Ellis 21-16.

Derek Metcalfe 21-18 just kept Silsden in the game but a big win was still needed. It was not forthcoming as Ian Matthews’ 21-14 victory for Craven meant Arthur Woolocott 21-15 for Silsden was irrelevant.

Skipton Inter District Veterans team were beaten by hosts Bradford in the first round of the Hickson Trophy by 15 points, both teams having six winners. There were good wins for David Helmsley 21-12 and Derek Seed 21-14 and from David Jacques who defeated Tony Riley 21-20. Bradford went on to beat Leeds in the final.
