Littletown 5 Steeton 2

STEETON suffered only their second West Riding County Amateur League Premier Division defeat of the season as they went down to Littletown.

Not for the first time, Steeton were forced to shuffle the pack with injuries and players unavailable. Joe Park and Joe Mason came into the side to replace Lee Barker and Ryan Cox, while new signing Lee Thompson was named on the bench.

Steeton got off to the worst possible start as the home side broke down their left and a cross into the box was met by the on rushing Lee McKeown who headed past Wayne Mahomet.

The Chevrons equalised when Andy King played a ball over the top and Nicky McNally calmly rounded the keeper and slotted home.

McNally went close before McKeown pounced in the box to stab home a loose ball. At this stage Roy Mason switched the formation to 4-4-2 and initially Steeton looked to tighten things up.

However on the stroke of half-time they conceded again. Not for the first time a lapse in concentration cost them and Joe Jagger capitalised.

Steeton started the second half much stronger and looked much livelier. Jack Richmond fired over and Tim Hird had an effort blocked as the home side were put under pressure.

Steeton were hit with a sucker punch as Littletown put the game out of their reach with a fourth goal when McKeown completed his hat-trick.

Steeton pulled one back as Joe Mason fed King and his shot flew into the top corner to give Steeton a bit of hope. Thompson then replaced debutant Josh Ferguson and his presence in midfield seemed to spur Steeton on a bit and sub Lee Reilly went close but his effort didn’t have enough power to trouble the home keeper.

With men piling forward there was always the worry that Steeton would get caught on the break and indeed that was the case as the home side wrapped things up as substitute, George Porter sealed the win.

Steeton play Dudley Hill at Summerhill Lane on Saturday (2.30pm)

Steeton: Mahomet, Rhodes, Ferguson (Thompson), Meegan, Park, Hird, J Mason (Barnes), Richmond, Abass (Reilly), McNally, King
