West Riding County Women's League Division One
Silsden 4 Wetherby Athletic Reserves 1

SILSDEN continued their unbeaten start to the season with a comfortable victory over Wetherby.

After a slow start they got a wake-up call after ten minutes when the visitors took the lead with a floated shot that just eluded the outstretched arms of keeper Laura Thurling.

This setback only spurred Silsden on and it didn’t take long before they were level. Becky Granger intercepted a loose clearance and drove into the corner before delivering a pin-point cross for Jess Buck to drive home from close range.

The Cobbydalers continued in the ascendancy and, following a quick interchange of passes with Sarah Betterton, player of the match Granger hit an unstoppable shot from 20 yards to give them the half-time lead.

Silsden were rewarded for their pressure with a third when Stacey Wood rose above everyone to head home Granger's corner. Victory was sealed when Elly Field followed up to finish smartly when the keeper dropped yet another effort on goal.

Silsden's defence were largely untroubled but were superbly marshalled by Becca Brown as they blotted out any threat from Wetherby.

Third Division: Silsden Development 5 Dewsbury Rangers 0

Silsden opened their league campaign with a comprehensive win over Dewsbury.

After a couple of chances went begging, the excellent Rachel Holdsworth netted from a tight angle to give the Cobbydalers a deserved lead.

A minute later Lauren Adams broke clear and slotted the ball past the keeper to double the lead.

Emma Tumelty then stepped off the bench and hit a thunderous left-foot shot into the roof of the net with her first touch. Adams got her second just before the break with another cool finish.

Dewsbury were offering little in the way of an attacking threat. Captain Vicky Williamson and player of the match Kate Perfect were controlling the centre of the park to ensure Silsden kept going forward.

A number of chances were squandered before Melissa Houldsworth scored the last goal of the game when she lobbed the advancing keeper. Lily Davies was outstanding at the back as Silsden ensured they kept a clean sheet.
