Silsden Under-19s secured their place in the Second Qualifying Round of the FA Youth Cup with a 3-1 victory over the Pontefract Collieries.

After going behind, Silsden began to control the game as Ben Cox headed home Andrew Briggs' flick-on to the far post.

They took the lead when Briggs turned his defender near to the corner flag before tapping in at the near post.

Fifteen minutes from time Harry McGowan was brought down on the edge of the box and Laurence Dunne stepped up to fire a bullet of a free-kick into the top corner from 30 yards.

Pontefract were on the back foot but managed to avoid falling behind further, their keeper tipping Aiden Smith’s header over the bar and McGowan hitting the post.

The young Cobbydalers will now welcome Rossington Main to the Angel Telecom Stadium in the next round, with the game due to take place next week.
