Hunsworth 0 Steeton 4

STEETON progressed to the second round of the West Riding County Amateur League Cup with a 4-0 win over bottom placed Hunsworth that was much more comfortable than the scoreline suggests.

With Wayne Mahomet away on holiday, Sam Moore came in for his debut in goal and Ryan Cox replaced Lee Barker at the heart of the Chevrons defence, with skipper Michael Rhodes returning to marshal the back three.

Steeton got off to a bright start with Lee Reilly going close and Nicky McNally firing over before they made the breakthrough after 15 minutes.

Andy King picked out Reilly who darted past his man and was tripped as he went to shoot. Steeton were awarded a penalty which Reilly confidently despatched. Hunsworth were also reduced to ten men as Jonathan Carr was shown a straight red for the incident.

Steeton were soon two up as a McNally corner was met by Sam Rooke and his header was turned in on the line by Joe Park.

Tim Hird then tested the home keeper and Rooke headed narrowly wide from another McNally corner. Andy Holden was the next to test the home keeper with a long range effort and Lee Thompson was stopped in his tracks as Steeton looked to gain a three-goal advantage before the break. The Hunsworth keeper then stopped Reilly at point-blank range.

The second half saw more of the same with Steeton pressing and taking the game to Hunsworth. Holden went close after great link up play with King, and McNally fired wide before bring replaced by Aaron Abass.

With Steeton in full control it was only a matter of time before the third goal came and it did when Reilly pounced on a loose ball in the box to stab home.

Dec Consoli replaced Hird in the midfield and he was unlucky with a shot that cannoned off a home defender. Steeton made sure of the game when Holden fed Abass and he calmly finished to score his first goal for Steeton.

The Chevrons are in County Cup action this Saturday when they face a long trip to Goole United, who theybeat in the semi-final two years ago.
