EMBSAY, who haven't had much to smile about recently, are celebrating a rare victory – even if they did need a penalty shoot-out.

The south Craven club, who were relegated from the Premier Division last season with only two wins from 22 matches and have lost all three games in the First Division so far this season, were at Third Division strugglers Horton in the second round of the Northern Plant Hire Trophy.

Goals from Ben Lowry and David Wilkinson for Embsay made it 2-2 after 90 minutes, and that was still the score after extra-time, with Embsay winning the spot-kick lottery 4-2.

They will now be at home to Ilkley or Sutton in the last 16, and that is also the stage that AFC Barnoldswick have reached following a 4-3 triumph at leaders Hellifield in an all-Third Division clash.

Ben Crabtree (2), Joe Pilling and Gary Storey were on the mark for tenth-placed Barnoldswick, who now host Second Division Polonia, 4-1 victors over top-flight Pendle Renegades.

Premier Division leaders Grassington United almost joined the Renegades on the discard pile but triumphed 3-2 at home to First Division Oxenhope Recreation, Tom Bradford and Jan Ozdoba being among United's scorers, but only a superb last-ditch tackle prevented it from being 3-3 at the death.

Rolls were not remotely in danger of joining the casualties as the Premier Division side won 12-1 at First Division strugglers Bradley.

Three players bagged 11 of the goals, Morgan Brown and man of the match Dan Paton getting four each and Gareth Hargreaves three, with Liam Garbutt adding a single, Bradley's man of the match Chris Hogg replying as Rolls booked a tie at AFC Colne.

Similarly, Skipton LMS made serene progress into the last 16, beating Chatburn 7-0 with seven different scorers, including Will Beckwith, Ian Craven, man of the match Oliver Hunter, James Wilkin, Paul Wilkin and substitute Fred Midgley.

They await Earby Town or Cononley Sports, while Settle United triumphed 6-3 in the all-Premier Division tie at Gargrave, thanks to man of the match Mark Loughlin (4), Dan Bathers and David Worthington.

Skipton Town, who hope to be playing in the top flight next season, saw off Barlick Wanderers 6-0 with goals from Andrew Nicholson (2), Michael Conroy, man of the match Luke Lockwood, Dominic Rankin and Robert Spencer,

There was the potential for an upset in the first-round tie between Second Division leaders Manningham All Stars and top-flight Silsden Whitestar but the visitors were having none of it, winning 6-0 with goals from Sam Stanfield (5) and James Wilson.

They will now host Skipton Town, while the all-Second Division clash between Broomhill and Carleton was predictably close, visitors Carleton winning 2-1 to book a tie at Grindleton.

Premier Division Cross Hills won 2-0 at home to Ingrow & Worth Valley 2-0 but there was a 1-0 defeat for Cowling at AFC Colne.
