Westwood Dolphins u-13s 1 Embsay Juniors u-13s 8

EMBSAY got back to winning ways with a fine performance away to Westwood which saw them climb back to second in the table.

Sam Preece opened the scoring with a fine individual goal. He knocked the ball past a Westwood defender and outpaced him to race clear and, from the edge of the box, shot across goal and into the far corner of the net.

Embsay quickly went two up when Josh Robinson clipped a great ball down the left wing and into the path of Harry Crabtree, who coolly converted.

It was three almost immediately when Preece popped up on the right wing, drove to the bye line and swept in a wicked cross which a Westwood defender could only volley into his own net.

Embsay went four up midway through the half when Gabri Tankard controlled the ball in the centre of the field and swept an excellent ball wide to Leon Bowler, who drove past a defender and shot home.

The fifth was a fine flowing move when Matt Speak cleared a ball from defence and found Preece, who set up the onrushing Robinson.

A frantic goalmouth scramble saw several shots blocked before Preece calmly picked his spot with a volley.

Tankard won a race with the onrushing keeper from Speak’s through ball and rounded him to side-foot home.

The eighth goal was a delightful strike from Dan Cannon, who unleashed a delightful chip into the roof of the net.

Westwood grabbed a consolation in the game’s closing stages.
