SILSDEN Whitestar had to recover from a 1-0 half-time deficit against Skipton Town to progress in the Northern Plant Hire Trophy.

The Premier Division hosts trailed their First Division opponents in the Skipton Body Repair Centre Craven League's top knockout competition before hitting back to win 3-2 and book themselves a second-round tie at Wilsden Athletic.

Sam Stanfield (2) and Jake Muir were Whitestar's marksmen, Dan McNulty taking both man-of-the-match awards, while gong winner John Bunnett and Jake Thompson replied, but there was no joy for Cononley Sports in their tie at Earby Town, with the home side winning 3-1 in a battle of Premier Division strugglers.

Meanwhile, First Division Sporting Keighley upset the odds with a 3-1 victory over top-flight Cross Hills at Marley, Ryan Narey getting the consolation goal, and will next be at Grassington United, another Premier Division side.

In the Premier Division, leaders Skipton LMS may have expected an easier ride at tenth-placed Gargrave than a 2-1 scoreline.

Will Beckwith's brace proved the difference, while Rolls and Grassington United swapped places in third and fourth after Rolls' 6-1 home victory.

Liam Garbutt (4), Gareth Hargreaves and Jonathon McGeachie netted for Rolls, for whom Lee Hall was influential, Nick Breckon replying for United, whose best player was Jack Schindler.

Settle United are only sixth but could be title contenders as they have only played six matches, the latest of them being a 4-0 home victory over Grindleton, with goals coming from Lee Walker (2), Mark Loughlin and Will Simpson as Luke Hepton took the man of the match awards.

Sixth-placed Cowling were also in goal-scoring mood in the First Division at Embsay, winning 6-2 as man of the match Sam Woolley (3), Luke Barker, Craig Gregory and Jacob Hough found the target, Alex Conroy and David Greenwood replying.

Braces from Morgan Brown and gong winner Damon Clark gave Rolls Reserves a 4-3 victory at AFC Colne, but there was no joy for basement boys Bradley, who went down 8-0 at home to Ingrow & Worth Valley.

Shane Dwyer and Naq Hussain also scored two apiece as Skipton Town Reserves defeated Pendle Renegades Reserves 5-2 in the Second Division, man of the match Sam Headey completing the tally, while third-placed Carleton disappointed in their 3-1 home defeat to fourth-placed Salts.

Grassington United Reserves gave rise to a better future with a 2-1 home win over Trawden Celtic Reserves, but Cross Hills Reserves, who are tenth, had a predictable 5-1 home defeat to leaders Manningham All Stars.

Polonia won their first-round Second Division Cup tie 7-1 at Cononley Sports Reserves but will surely face a stiffer test in the quarter-final at Carleton.

Hellifield still have hopes of knockout glory, however, after a 3-2 home win over Barlick Wanderers in the Third Division Cup.

Dale Denham, Carl Stanford and substitute Matthew Lambert were on target for Hellifield, who are now at Otley Town in the second round.

AFC Barnoldswick, inspired by Matt Salmons, won 3-1 at home to Ilkley in the Third Division, while Cowling Reserves, for whom Gareth Sharpe shone, can take some heart from their 1-0 home defeat to leaders Addingham.
