Rotherham Clifton 17 Skipton 5

SKIPTON'S Yorkshire Division Four woe continued as the long journey to South Yorkshire ended in a another defeat which leaves them second from bottom.

It leaves new head coach Dave Duxbury with plenty to work on after leading his charges for the first time.

Skipton encountered a much stronger pack in the Rotherham Clifton side and struggled to manage set-piece play during the first half.

An encouraging aspect of the visitors' game was the debut performance of Jake Duxbury at stand-off. He kicked well from hand and led the back line well but unfortunately failed to convert a penalty in Skipton's favour halfway through the first period.

The home side's forward dominance lead to two converted tries as they established a 14-0 lead at half-time.

Early in the second half the home side were awarded penalty which was converted to stretch their lead.

Skipton then began a stronger period of play with hard work and sheer determination by Liam Jordan giving them better field position, resulting in full back Jack McLeod crossing the try line to reduce the deficit with the visitors only points of the afternoon.

Duxbury failed with the conversion attempt as Rotherham recorded a home win to enhance their league position.
