Evo-Stik League Division One North: Scarborough Athletic 0 Brighouse Town 1

DANNY Facey fired Brighouse Town to their second 1-0 victory on the trot last night.

The deserved win on the east coast against Steve Kittrick’s Boro lifted Town three places back up to ninth.

The Seadogs are a lowly 18th but only lost by the odd goal at leaders Warrington Town at the weekend as former Guiseley boss Kittrick begins to make a mark on his new club.

The new regime has made improvements but Facey’s drilled shot from a tight angle midway through the first half was enough to condemn Boro to another defeat.

Town boss Paul Quinn’s biggest concern will be an injury to Ernest Boafo, who replaced Facey just before the hour but was forced off in the 78th minute.

Silsden remain in the relegation zone in the North West Counties League Premier Division after a 3-1 defeat at Nelson’s Little Wembley last night.

The Cobbydalers made a great start when Charlie Collinge converted a cross from the left flank with a neat shot from inside the area in the third minute.

The home side forced a few chances for an early equaliser but Silsden could have doubled their lead in the 12th minute when Chris Wademan set up Tom Henderson. However, the striker’s effort was deflected for a corner.

The Blues’ Ashley Brierley was a constant threat as the home side battled hard to get back into the game but it wasn’t until the 37th minute that they levelled, Adam Nuttall netting a back-post header to convert Thomas Bradley’s lofted cross.

Cobbydalers’ keeper Ed Hall made a very good save soon after but Nelson led 2-1 at the break, Waqas Azam latching onto a rebound after Hall could only parry a shot in the 42nd minute.

Changes were made by Silsden boss Ryan Haigh, and his side had chances to level before the home side settled the issue in the 66th minute.

Nuttall calmly slotted in his second of the night after picking up a superb through ball.

Sean Regan’s Eccleshill United suffered another defeat on the road in Toolstation Northern Counties East League Division One in a mid-table against Teversal.

The home side made a good start as Khyle Sargent headed them into the lead from a 12th-minute corner.

However, the Eagles should have been on terms before the break but Andy Cooper saw his first-half penalty saved by Teversal keeper Ryan Blythe.

Teversal had a second ‘goal’ ruled out for offside but they made it 2-0 with a little over 20 minutes remaining thanks to a Lewis Weaver’s well-struck shot.

Two of the local clubs were denied any action in the Premier Division by waterlogged pitches.

Thackley should have hosted leaders Worksop Town but that was called off after a 10am pitch inspection.

The surface at Dennyfield cut up badly during Saturday’s 2-1 home win over Nostell MW and was too soft to repair in time.

Liversedge’s home game against high-flying Cleethorpes Town was also off, despite Sedge’s home game at the weekend also being a victim of the weather.

The pitch at Clayborn has not been fit to play on this year.
