Silsden 2 1874 Northwich 1

SILSDEN kept alive their hopes of avoiding relegation from the Premier Division with a deserved victory over their fourth-placed opponents.

But with three of the bottom four all winning their midweek matches they remain three points adrift of safety.

It means they cannot afford to lose either of their remaining games at AFC LIverpool on Saturday or Bootle at home a week later.

The Cobbydalers got off to a flying start with a fifth minute goal from striker Chris Wademan after a through ball from Josh McNulty.

he home side’s lead was doubled in just the 18th minute when Wademan found Danny Forrest and the former Bradford City and Guiseley striker curled a beauty into the top corner.

The visitors’ keeper made a good save to deny Andy Hill’s free kick on the half hour and Silsden went on to start the second half on the front foot. However, Northwich dug deep and clawed a goal back after a spell of pressure.

Matthew Beadle stabbed a loose ball into the net after a corner 20 minutes from time but the visitors could not breakdown the stubborn home defence again.
