MENSTON duo Tom Lester and Phil Raikes broke the Aire-Wharfe League third-wicket partnership record in a match at home to Upper Wharfedale that produced 597 runs.

Lester smashed 14 sixes and 13 fours in racing to 165 in 92 balls and together with Raikes (119) put on 279, beating the mark set by Follifoot pair Christian Newton and Neil Walker in 2001.

That saw the hosts total 378-4 but the big hitting didn't stop there in the Division Three clash, with Wharfedale's Jake Starkey (113) grabbing a century, but David Blackburn's 6-31 spell ensured Menston's win as the Grassington side were all out for 219.

There was also some sparkling batting from Byron Boshoff who made an instant impact on his Horsforth debut with 95 as his side overwhelmed Steeton by 151 runs in Division One.

Boshoff hit ten fours and five sixes and with Chris Gordon (71) and Gareth Lee (48no) dominated the bowling as Horsforth raced to 321-6.

The pick of Steeton's bowlers was James Emmott, who collected 3-57 from his 15 overs.

Andrew Robinson (4-27) and Matthew Wainwright (3-46) then got to work to ensure Horsforth are among only three Division One sides with maximum points from their first two games.

Pick of Steeton's batsmen was veteran opener John Akrigg, who wielded his new Viking bat to good effect as he top-scored with 38 from 51 deliveries.

In Division Two, Skipton were no match for hosts Colton, who made 233-9, with Iqbal Khan claiming 3-49 and Gary Owens 3-73, before the Dales side slumped to 83 all out.

In Division Three, evergreen Mick Scott took 5-23 as Silsden crashed out for 117 of which Shaun Brentnall made 73. Ajanthe Weerapuli (49) and Nick Flood (47no) eased Tong Park Esholt to an easy eight-wicket win.

* WILL LUXTON became Steeton's youngest ever centurion after scoring 125no for their third team against Menston – just two days after his 13th birthday.

It was part of fantastic double for Will, who also scored an unbeaten ton for Bradford Grammar School in their win over Woodhouse Grove the previous day.

His knock for Steeton came from 121 balls and included one six and 16 fours.

And he wasn't the only young star as 14-year-old leg spinner Mikey Hofman-Tenant took 5-34 as Steeton won by 63 runs to progress to the next round of the Chappell Cup.
