SKIPTON Golf Club's annual foursomes competition, the Wales Cup, proved a happy hunting ground for Pete Sanderson and Keith Airey.
Their score of 69.5 was the best of the day and gave them a one-shot victory over second-placed Robert Nesbitt and Danny Pethybridge. Third on 72 were Darron Parker and Gordon Whinkup.
Matt Ryder continued his good start to the year. Playing the English Golf Union Gold Medal qualifier at Ilkley, he carded the best gross score on the day of 75, net 72, and now heads to the final to be played at Frilford Heath later in the year.
The 8-15 team finally got their league campaign underway at home to Keighley with a 6-2 defeat. Alan Breckon was the only Skipton winner on the night.
