THE Clarkson and Supplementary Cups took priority this week as both competitions were played down to the quarter-final stage.

Sutton B came up with a big win against Colne Cricket Club at Skipton Craven in the Clarkson Cup . As always the Craven green was tricky and it was Sutton B who had three winners with Peter Peacock 21-7 the best of them.

Colne tried hard to pull back the 75 points handicap but Sutton held on to win 222-206.

Silsden Playing Fields A got the better of their B team on the Silsden BC green. The A team had eight winners with Peter Oliver's 21-5 success helping them to a 244-230 victory.

Devonshire A were made to go all the way by Crosshills C who got a 105 points start.

Martin Lee 21-0 and Graham Perry 21-1 supplied the big wins their side needed to claw back the handicap.

Robbie Ellis 21-18 was pushed all the way by Colin Morris, while Irene Smith did well against Les Foster before Devon A triumphed 235-222.

Keighley A got the good winners they needed to get past Rolls Royce at Steeton. Richard Dunhill and Sharon Gadd both won 21-1 in a 203-180 victory.

Broughton Road B made the most of their 25-points handicap as they got the better of Cononley B 271-259 at Colne Cricket Club.

Gargrave A proved to be too strong with ten winners against Steeton B as they secured a 250-217 victory.

Keith Coppen produced a good win 21-18 for Steeton A, but it was his team's only success as Silsden progressed 227-199.

Sutton A completed a good performance with eight winners against Colne Legion A, Anthony Emmott 21-3 was the best in a 223-184 win.

Cononley A and Crosshills A had to give starts in to their opponents in the Supplementary Cup and did not find it easy against Devon B and Keighley B respectively.

Cononley A had all ten winners at Grassington, but some good scores for Devon B, meant that Graham Reay’s 21-3 win proved decisive in a final score of 210-199.

Crosshills A had eight winners but needed David Scott 21-1 and Ken Brenkley 21-3 to get them through 207-198.

Broughton Road A put up a good performance to get the better of Settle A. They had nine winners with skipper Darrell Gore 21-6 leading the way. David Leeming’s 21-5 win was not enough for Settle as the Roaders won 239-205.

Gargrave C beat Gargrave B 286-273 in a close match. Peter Duck 21-12 and Andrew Cleminson 21-13 got good wins for the C team.

Lund Park had mixed results. The A team proved to be too strong for Addingham A as they won 271-237, while the B team lost 259-227 to Crosshills B. Whinfield A progressed as Oakworth were unable to field a full team and withdrew.

The Veterans Inter District side beat last year's champions Bradford 29-27 in a close-fought match.

Derek Metcalfe 21-16 was the only Skipton winner in the first four in the home leg at Sutton Park. Derek Seed 21-7 and David Jacques 21-13 led a strong performance by the bottom four as the home side won all the matches.

John Parkin 21-14 and Alister Keighley 21-17 were the only winners for the away team but there were no low scores from the rest.

The next match will be against West Riding on the Friday, June 17.
