INGLETON'S Harley Rushton made an impressive return from injury in the Bob Macintyre Memorial Races at Edinburgh's East Fortune Raceway.

The 21-year-old rider qualified on pole position with his 500cc Manx Norton and on the front row with the 350cc Yamaha TZ he was racing in place of his 350cc Honda.

The first Post Classic race of the weekend aboard the Yamaha saw Rushton claim his first win followed by a second place on the Norton in the 500 race behind Kendal's Gary Thwaites.

The second 500 race saw Rushton beat Thwaites after a heated battle at the front. He followed up with a class victory on the Yamaha TZ.

The sunny weather continued into Sunday and Rushton turned up the heat with three class victories on the Yamaha TZ, with his lap times getting faster each race.

In one of the races he achieved the class win despite a detour into a potato field after clipping a rival's bike and having to fight his way back to the front

The first two 500 races ended with Rushton following Thwaites home to a strong second place after some tough battling for position.

During the final 500 race of the weekend it was just stating to rain slightly, enough to distract a rider but not enough to dampen the circuit.

Harley got a good start off pole and tucked in behind Thwaites after the first corner. The race became an intriguing battle between the two riders with Rushton winning by three seconds.

It capped a great comeback weekend for Rushton after his recent crash ruled him out of the last round. Rushton said: “I was happy I could bounce back this strong after two weeks of recovery and trying to get myself race fit again.

"This weekend has left me and the team on a high after recent race events have left us frustrated at various issues. There has been some strong, tough yet fun racing."
