Last night’s friendly fixtures produced a mixed bag of results, with arguably the most surprising being a strong Guiseley side being held to a goalless draw at Toolstation Northern Counties East League Division One outfit Knaresborough Town.

The Lions had a good number of last season’s regulars in their starting line-up and nine substitutes but the plucky home side made life difficult for the Vanarama National League club.

One of Guiseley’s subs was former Bantams, Doncaster Rovers and Farsley Celtic midfielder Dave Syers, who has featured as a trialist in other pre-season games for Mark Bower’s side.

Evo-Stik Division One North outfit Brighouse Town were also held to a draw - by Knaresborough’s league rivals AFC Emley.

Paul Quinn’s men took the lead through Luke Parkin but Kieran Ryan levelled for the home side before the sides played out a goalless second half.

Newcomers Campion enjoyed a 4-1 victory over Silsden to register their first pre-season win.

Scott Eastwood, Jonny Cunnington, Matty Jones and Steve Hollingworth were all on target for James Bicknell’s men, while the Cobbydalers’ reply was an own goal.

Thackley were beaten 2-1 at home by Padiham, Daniel Broadbent getting the Dennyboys’ only goal, and Liversedge went down 3-0 at Tadcaster Albion, who won promotion to the Evo-Stik League as NCE champions last term.
