COWLING'S Northern Plant Hire Trophy derby against Cross Hills not only proved a cracker, but also proved that there is very little between the bottom of the Premier Division and the top of Division One in the Skipton Body Repair Centre Craven League.

Robert Matthews (2) and Sam Birks netted for Cross Hills, who are tenth in the top flight, but it wasn't enough as man-of-the-match Luke Barker scored four for the home side, who will now be at either Wilsden Athletic or Skipton Town in the third round.

Leaders Silsden Whitestar, who had Gavin Shearer sent off, fell to only their second defeat of the season in the Premier Division.

They lost 2-1 at fifth-placed Wilsden Athletic, with Damien Whiteoak bagging the consolation goal for the Sam Stanfield-inspired visitors.

Milton Mendes' brace gave Settle United Reserves a 2-1 home win over Skipton Town Reserves in Division Two, man-of-the-match Naq Hussain scoring the only goal for Town's second string, making it 11 goals in 11 games for him this season, including nine in his last six.

Second-placed Sutton backed up their good form in Division Three with a 3-1 home triumph over Cowling Reserves, with Kane Booker, Aiden Robertson and Mickey Ruddock on target and Tim McNee getting the reply, but neither Broomhill Reserves nor Bradley Reserves could find the net in away fixtures.

Broomhill, for whom James Smith was man of the match, lost 2-0 at Ilkley, while Bradley went down 3-0 to second-half goals at Bingley Juniors Reserves.

There was success, however, for Silsden Whitestar Reserves in the first round of the Division Three Cup.

They won 3-2 at Addingham, thanks to an early goal by Simon Cox and late efforts by Jack Kendall and man-of-the-match Oliver Stephenson, and will now travel to Settle United B.
