A RECORD 165 runners took part in the Great Whernside fell race, which attracted a line-up containing some big names.
Hebden's Victoria Wilkinson took the plaudits for Craven, winning the women's race in style with a time of 35min 27sec, with Black Coombe’s Anna Lupton second (37.57) and Pudsey’s Rachel Pilling third (41.31).
The Bingley Harrier ran a strong race from the off and was overtaking men all the way to the summit and back, finishing an impressive 15th overall.
The men’s race was won by Simon Bailey (Mercia) in 30:29 ahead of Ilkley Harriers’ Tom Adams (30.56) and Pudsey & Bramley’s Joe Baxter (31.51). Bailey gained an early lead and never looked like relinquishing it while the top five were decided long before the final field gate was passed.
