SKIPTON Swimming Club's seniors travelled to Leeds to compete in the second weekend of the Yorkshire Winter Championships, and the squad of 19 broke numerous club records over the two days, also gaining seven medals and 28 top-ten placings from the 106 races.

Leading the way was 13-year-old Ned Sharp, despite him only competing on the first day due to an England Phase One Talent Development Programme at Ponds Forge, Sheffield on the Sunday.

Nevertheless he swam in five events, making the finals in each and winning the 50 metres freestyle in 25.84sec to go straight to the top of the Great Britain age-group rankings.

Ned also came fourth in the 100m butterfly in 1min 5.52sec, sixth in the 200m individual medley in 2min 26.92sec, ninth in the 50m breaststroke in 35.72sec and tenth in the 50m backstroke in 32:63sec, smashing club records in the freestyle, butterfly and backstroke.

He has also been selected to represent Yorkshire in the National County Team Championships, taking part in the 100m freestyle and the 50m freestyle medley and mixed freestyle teams!

Clubmate Bea Waller also tasted Yorkshire Winter success, achieving personal-best times in five of her six 15 year old girls' events, most notably a four-second improvement in the 100m breaststroke in 1min 21.35sec.

She was a finalist in two events, being fifth in the 100m backstroke in 1min 7.22sec and tenth in the 50m backstroke in 32.15sec.

Luke Midgely qualified in eight races, taking bronzes in the 50m and 100m breaststroke while setting new club records.

In the 50m breaststroke, he missed out on gold by 0.14sec, while the club's 100m breaststroke had stood since 2004.

Ethan Camsey qualified for all nine of his finals, achieving personal bests in eight and winning bronzes in the 200m individual medley in 2min 15.70sec and the 100m backstroke in 1min 01.94sec, where he set a club record.

He was also fourth in the 50m backstroke in another club record of 28.64sec and the 50m freestyle in 25.87sec, while his fifth-place 100m butterfly of 1min 1.74sec and sixth-placed 50m butterfly of 28.03sec were also club records.

In addition, Ethan was seventh in the 100m breaststroke in 1min 13.03sec, ninth in the 100m freestyle in 57.31sec and tenth in the 50m breaststroke in 34.77sec.

Meanwhile, Lauren Hanson qualified in all nine of her events, gaining six personal bests and smashing eight club records at 50m and 100m events in the 17 years' age group on her way to bronzes in the 50m butterfly in 29.67sec and the 50m backstroke in 30.62sec.

Skipton also had two Yorkshire Championship debutants who achieved personal bests, Mia Douglas clocking 39.85sec in knocking a second off her time in the 50m breaststroke, while 13-year-old Louis Robson achieved bests of 29:84sec in the 50m freestyle and 33.49sec in the 50m butterfly, both times being North East Regional qualifying marks.

Other Skipton top-ten finishers were Sam King, Matthew Kenneth and Tom Barrett.
