Wharfedale Foresters 60 Driffield 0

THE Foresters proved too strong for their game opponents in this top versus bottom clash in the Yorkshire Merit Premiership.

Their side, which contained eight players with first team experience, scored at regular intervals in the first half as they exerted their superiority.

The first try came from the incorrigible Jake Parkinson who went in after a strong driven line-out.

Next came a try from Josh Prell after excellent continuity and several well-worked phases led to a score far out on the right which Oliver Whyte converted excellently.

Jimmy Bullough marked his return from injury at scrum half with a clever try after a break down the blindside and a swift exchange of passes. Whyte’s conversion made it 19-0.

Driffield defended manfully and refused to throw the towel in, even though they realised they were seriously up against it.

The Greens’ line-out was working well and from one such procedure Rhys Davies took a clean ball and majestically carried himself over the line for a try which Whyte converted

The lead stretched to 33-0 at the break as Jack Kitching finished off a good move with Whyte adding the extras.

Despite the testing conditions, Wharfedale were trying to run the ball at every opportunity with full back Joe Slater, wingers Josh Parkinson and Prell all carrying a threat.

The first try in the second period came from another good line-out catch and drive with the ever-alert Davies eagerly grabbing the chances to show his try-scoring abilities. Whyte’s deadly boot added the conversion.

Further good work from the forwards saw Simon Borrill grab the opportunity to claim a scrappy Driffield line-out before breaking upfield and providing Mike Bradshaw with a clear run to the line.

Winger Ben Parkinson took the chance to show his speed when a Driffield kick allowed him the chance to return it with interest and score a try which Andy Rhodes converted.

Wharfedale introduced their replacements before rounding off the scoring with a Jack Kitching try from a five-metre scrum.
