Skipton 49 Ossett 19

SKIPTON notched up another convincing six-try victory over Ossett to strengthen their position at the top of Yorkshire Four.

The home side set their stall out from the kick-off, putting winger Jamie Barker over for the first try in the opening minutes.

A driving run from prop Luke Currie was followed by strong scrummaging as Ossett were pushed off the ball.

The pressure paid off as an excellent recovery at a ruck by second row Rick Wilshire led to winger Josh Smith going over for the second try. Full back Matty Langstaff added the extra points.

He stretched the lead to 15-0 minutes later when he slotted over a sweetly-taken penalty.

The visitors were not to be denied and staked their own claim, camping on Skipton's line for several phases of play before driving over for their first try. which their stand-off converted.

Skipton replied within minutes with a superb individual try from number eight Harry McEneaney who bullocked in under the posts to bring the first half to a close.

Langstaff started the second period as he meant to go on, with a try under the posts which he also converted. Skipton were then given a penalty for Ossett not releasing which Langstaff put into the corner.

Second-row John Pickersgill took the ball at the line-out and, after a good forward drive, went over for try number four to secure the bonus point.

A good break by Luke Currie from the re-start put scrum-half Jonathan Kulik away, only for him to be brought down ten yards short before Ossett cleared the danger.

The visitors again conceded a penalty for handling on the ground, which Langstaff converted to give the home side a 37-7 advantage.

Ossett came back at Skipton following a knock-on at the re-start and a good break by their backs was only ended when Langstaff bundled their winger into touch. However, Ossett won the resultant line-out and drove over for a second try to reduce their deficit.

The visitors broke from the re-start but a knock-on gave Skipton the scrum, from which an excellent break by centre Jon Currie put winger Hamish Munro over for a try. Langstaff added the extra points from a touchline kick, to the delight of the home supporters.

Young Skipton flanker Tom Huxley received a yellow card for repeated infringements but even with one man down Skipton ran in a further Langstaff try to take their tally to 49 points.

Ossett secured a late converted try under the posts to round the afternoon's scoring off.
