Sedbergh Wanderers 3 Grassington United 0

WESTMORLAND League side Sedbergh won the Craven FA Challenge Cup for the first time with a fine performance at Settle United on Friday.

Wanderers made a flying start and took advantage of the blustery wind to score twice in the opening 13 minutes.

The opening goal was a real cracker. Man of the match Dale Metcalfe picked up the ball on halfway and beat a number of defenders before finishing coolly.

Grassington were still trying to establish themselves in the game when Xavier Baines headed home a left wing cross from Aaron Siemaszko.

Grassington suffered a further setback when Ben Schindler had to leave the field with a dislocated shoulder.

The later stages of the first half saw Grassington come more into the game but Sedbergh keeper Matt Parkin remained relatively untroubled.

Sedbergh extended their lead on the hour when Andrew Todd smashed the ball home after it had ricocheted around in the box after a Siemaszko corner.

Grassington kept their composure and played some excellent football, however they found Parkin in good form and were left disappointed at the end result.

Tomorrow sees the replay of the Norman Pratt Trophy final at Settle United, kick off 6:15pm between Ingleton Reserves and Waddington Reserves with another bumper crowd expected.
