UPPER Wharfedale will play Arthington in the final of the T20 Theakston Nidderdale League Wath Cup on Sunday at Newby Hall (2pm).

They secured their place after winning away at Thirsk 2nd XI in the semi-final at the weekend.

Batting first, Upper Wharfedale fought their way to 125-5 with skipper Joe Daggett making a solid 39not out.

Thirsk were well in the game but regular wickets from the father and son combination of Joe Metcalfe (3-20) and John Metcalfe (4-25), well supported by Kyran Clarke (2-15) eventually saw Upper Wharfedale bowl out Thirsk for 100 to win by 25 runs.

A win in the final would top off what has so far been a very successful season for Grassington-based side.

Since their move to the Nidderdale League they have so far won every game played and sit comfortably on top of Division Six.

Daggett has scored 575 runs so far, including a knock of 212not out a few weeks ago and Clarke has been the pick of the bowlers with his 20 wickets so far at an average of 15.15.

The final will be a real test against a team battling at the top of Division Five and promises to be a real cracker.
