A YOUNGSTER receiving riding lessons at Steeton-based New Redcar Farm has qualified for the prestigious Royal International Horse Show at Hickstead next month.

Isabelle Wilmot, aged ten from Skipton, will compete in three disciplines on her pony May Day Lad, who is stabled at the farm.

The Greatwood Primary School pupil is being taught by Heather Airey, who owns New Redcar Farm, and her daughter Samantha Chadwick.

May Day Lad, whose stable name is Sparky, is an 11-year-old dapple grey gelding which Isabelle's family have owned since April last year.

And in only their first season competing in the Royal International Horse Show Qualifiers, which started in April, they have progressed from the following events: the RIHS Nursery Stakes at Westmoreland County Show (crowned Working Hunter champion); the Pretty Polly Show Hunter Pony not exceeding 133cms at Hambleton District Show; and the Open Show Hunter Pony not exceeding 133cms at BSPS 3a Richmond Show.

Isabelle, who started riding when she was six, and Sparky will now compete at Hickstead on July 30.
