SKIPTON Golf Club’s knockout finals have got under way with both the Raleigh Hargreaves mixed foursomes and Men’s Pairs Plate being decided.

In the men’s pairs it was former winners Matt Ryder and Chris Payne up against Ian Jolly and Dale Persson.

Jolly and Persson took the early lead and found themselves two up after six holes thanks to some good work around the greens from Jolly.

Ryder and Payne fought back well playing the next four holes in four-under-par gross to be two up after ten holes.

The crucial hole was the 14th with Jolly and Persson, having pulled one back on the 12th, looked odds on to get the game back to all square.

But Payne managed to coax in a long-range putt to halve the hole to retain the lead.

Ryder and Payne took the next to be two up with three to play. On the 17th, with Persson already in the hole for a nett three, it was left to Payne to hole another birdie putt to take the match 2&1.

The Raleigh Hargreaves Mixed foursomes saw last year’s winner’s Milly Eaton and David Grant up against the father and daughter combination of Alistair and Sarah Coy.

It was the Coys who started brightest being one up after three holes. Sadly it was the last time they would be in front.

Eaton and Grant took the next four holes and eventually reached the turn at two up.

The Coys managed to reduce the deficit by taking the tenth hole but Eaton and Grant were now playing flawless golf winning four of the next five holes to run out 5&3 winners and retain their title.
