West Riding County Amateur League Division One: Steeton Reserves 5 Overthorpe Sports Club 1

BRANNAN Lawn's strike after just two minutes proved to be the only goal in the first half of this fast-paced and entertaining match.

The hosts were grateful to goalkeeper Joe Mash, who made three superb saves to make sure that they held on to the lead at the interval.

However, in the second half the floodgates opened. Will Knight made the score 2-0 with a blistering shot early on before Lawn grabbed his second.

Midway through the half, debutant Harry Farnell gave Steeton a well-deserved four-goal cushion. Now the drama switched to the other end when the referee awarded the visitors two penalties in quick succession.

Mash dived acrobatically to his left to push away the first but could not prevent the second from giving Overthorpe a consolation goal.

In the dying minutes the rout was completed when Jack Richmond lashed the ball home as the visitors were forced to play the latter stages with only ten men after their skipper was dismissed.
