THE lights almost went out on the Skipton Hire Centre Clarkson Cup final.
Colne Legion Bowling Club had a major problem with their floodlights so the match was switched to Rolls Royce.
The green switch seemed to play into the hands of Keighley A as they were soon in control against a stuttering Devon A.
Devon, receiving ten points start, started well with their talisman Robbie Ellis winning 21-8 against Richard Dunhill,.
The complexion of the match changed as Keighley started to pile up the wins.
In-form David Jacques came up with a good 21-11 win over Nick Squires, Phil Anderson followed with a 21-12 win over Martin Lee, while Steve Morris got the better of Danny Moore 21-14. Keighley now had a three-point lead, three more winners where to follow as Chris Wilson beat Graham Perry 21-17, Sharon Gadd overcame Kevin Burnett 21-16 and Len Buxton defeated Richard Baker 21-14.
With Jim Horsfield hauling back Les Foster’s lead to go down 21-19, the final result was now not in doubt.
Faye Ellis tried hard but went down to Richard Hargreaves 21-11.
Stephen Lofthouse did get a final win for Devon when he beat Keighley skipper Trevor Hargreaves 21-11.
Hargreaves had the last laugh as he picked up the Clarkson Cup from league president Alister Keighley.
The Supplementary Cup saw Settle A take on Whinfield A at Gargrave Bowling Club.
Whinfield received 15-points but failed to get the start they needed against the favourites.
Derek Seed 21-2 and Mick Duke 21-6 the initial deficit into a 19-point lead.
Idris Wade got some points back with 21-12 win over Settle skipper John Chambers before Alan Bullock 21-17 gave Settle their third winner in the first four.
David Ayrey's 21-16 victory for Settle put Whinfield into a tough position and needing big winners, which were not forthcoming.
Brian Perry 21-19 and Gary Bailey 21-14 were good winners for Whinfield, but David Leeming 21-14 just about put the seal on Settle's victory.
Derek Squires won 21-18 for Whinfield, then Graham Ralph put the icing on the cake for Settle with a 21-6 win.
Gargrave player Martyn Cox did the honours of presenting the trophy to John Chambers.
