Silsden 2 Atherton LR 0

SILSDEN extended their 100 per cent start to seven games and stretched their lead at the top of the Hallmark Security League Division One on Tuesday evening.

Danny Forrest's side secured their latest wins with goals from Nicky McNally and Joe Gaughan on a night when their closest challengers Whitchurch Alport were held to a 2-2 draw at Cammell Laird 1907.

It means that Silsden now have a four-point lead, but they were made to work hard for their latest win.

They put the Silsden defence, in which Josh Kaine was outstanding, under pressure.

Chris Wademan and Gaughan missed chances for Silsden before McNally opened the scoring in the 27th minute. He netted after being put clear by Kyle Hancock's superb through ball.

The visitors picked up four yellow cards and had Clarkson sent off, but they still kept the Silsden defence on their toes.

There were chances at both ends before Gaughan made the three-points safe after a sharp counter attack in the second minute of added time.
