EIGHTY enthusiastic children took part in Skipton Swimming Club's annual gala at Craven Leisure Centre.

Officials and volunteers came from far and wide to ensure the event ran smoothly and conformed to ASA licensing.

This meant that times could be recorded electronically, using timing mats at the end of the pool and results displayed on an large electronic scoreboard.

The times are also added to the ASA database, giving swimmers the opportunity to feature in larger galas.

This inclusive gala – sponsored by Rendezvous Hotel, Skipton – was for new and more experienced swimmers. Retiring captains Ethan Camsey (aged 16 of Carleton) and Bea Waller (aged 16 of Ilkley) played an important role at the event, nurturing and encouraging the younger swimmers and then inspiring them by taking part themselves.

A new parent said: "It was my daughter's first gala. I was so impressed at how organised each part of the day was. The volunteers were really friendly and encouraging. The more experienced swimmers were inspiring and we had a great afternoon.”

All medals and trophies won at the gala will be awarded at the club's presentation evening in January.

Skipton Swimming Club are affiliated with North East ASA and the Yorkshire Swimming Association, and are accredited to Swim21. Welcoming swimmers of all ages and abilities from 8 to 18, the club holds and attends competitions from novice level to national competitions.
