ILKLEY TENNIS Club’s Thomas Horsley has been crowned Yorkshire champion at under-14 level.
The youngster stormed to victory in the singles final at the John Charles Centre in Leeds, beating Michael Mcdougall in convincing style 6-1, 6-0.
After an initial draw of 64 entries, Horsley dropped only one set in progressing to the county show-piece, coming from behind to beat Matthew Abel 3-6, 6-1 (10-4 on a super tiebreak) in the quarter-final.
His win capped a successful summer for the Ermysted’s Grammar School pupil, who was also victorious at the recent Ilkley Open and the Winchester Babolat Open, both of which are grade three category tournaments.
Horsley, pictured right being presented with his county trophy by Yorkshire Tennis president Chris Day, is now due to move up to under-16 level.
